What Is Organic Traffic?

Organic traffic refers to visitors who arrive at your website by clicking unpaid (natural) listings in search engine results, rather than through ads, social media, or direct visits.

Why it matters

Organic traffic is the primary goal of SEO because it’s sustainable and cost-efficient — you don’t pay per click as you do with ads. Once a page ranks well, it can attract qualified visitors month after month at effectively zero marginal cost. It also tends to convert well because the visitor actively searched for what you offer.

Example

If someone Googles “ecommerce SEO agency,” sees your unpaid result, and clicks it, that visit is organic traffic. If they instead click a Google Ad at the top, that’s paid traffic.
