What Is a Title Tag?

A title tag is an HTML element that specifies the title of a web page. It appears as the clickable blue headline in search results, in the browser tab, and when the page is shared on social platforms.

Why it matters

The title tag is one of the most important on-page SEO elements. It tells search engines what the page is about and strongly influences both rankings and click-through rate. Best practice is to include your primary keyword near the front, keep it under about 60 characters so it isn’t cut off, and make it genuinely compelling to click.

Example

A weak title like “Services | Home” wastes the opportunity. A strong one — “Technical SEO Services: Fix Crawl & Speed Issues | Digital Leap” — includes the keyword, a benefit, and the brand.
